Suzanne Ornsby has spent most of her career acting in two main capacities. Firstly, for local planning authorities in promoting their local plans (she is currently promoting the South Gloucestershire Local Plan) and in defending their position at large public inquiries usually against volume housebuilders or land speculators. Secondly, for water utility companies, mainly in promoting their water resource management plans, strategic water resource infrastructure, water abstraction and advising on drought planning and orders.
Suzanne is consistently recognised as a leader in this specialist field of work in the Legal 500, Legal Experts and in Chambers and Partners in which she is described as "An excellent advocate...who is able to marshal complex legal arguments in a palatable and convincing style, and achieves successful results", possesses a "rigorous and meticulous style", gives "great commercial advice and is a delight to work with" as well as being "a highly proficient inquiry advocate at the planning bar" and “a ruthless cross-examiner”..
She is a bencher at the Middle Temple, where she teaches advocacy and chairs the Membership Committee and a member of PEBA and UKELA. She is also a councillor of the City of London for the Farringdon Without Ward which contains the Temple and where she is Deputy Chair of Membership. She also sits on the Board of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Southwark Academy.
