James Maurici KC is a barrister at Landmark Chambers who practices in planning, environmental law, and public law. James’s planning practice encompasses all aspects of planning including advisory and advocacy at inquiries, hearings, examinations and in the Higher Courts.
Recent inquiries include Appeal Ref: APP/R3650/W/3327643 Land off Midhurst Road at Scotland Park, Haslemere and APP/Q1445/W/24/3353409 Brighton Gas Works. Recent High Court cases include: R. (Saferwaters Ltd) v SSEFRA [2025] EWHC 1885 (Admin) and R. (CPRE, Kent Branch) v SSHCLG [2025] EWHC 1781 (Admin).
He has authored numerous articles on planning law including most recently “Ten reasons why Labour will fail to build 1.5 million new homes revisited: how are they doing and what else could be done to help deliver this goal?” J.P.L. 2025, 13, OP3-OP40. He chaired two recent PEBA working groups on dealing with experts and also the conduct of planning hearings.
