Rob McDonald is an experienced transport professional with over 25 years of experience, and his current focus is on smart cities. His job? Securing funding for projects that develop beyond the transport silo to see the benefits of cross-sector working in meeting people’s needs.

 

Currently leading a £2.2 million smart cities cluster project and a £5.5m Adept Live Lab, Rob has brought together 6 local authorities and the private sector to address challenges around health, transport, air quality, and energy.

 

Rob started his career working on traffic management systems before moving into more general transport planning, such as leading the provision of multidisciplinary advice for major land development projects. About 12 years ago Rob refocused his efforts on developing our capability in intelligent transport systems (ITS) – such as leading the delivery of a £4.8m package of ITS measures for Reading Borough Council. He has also been heavily involved in European funded research projects.
