Rageh Omaar is a Somali-born British journalist and International Affairs Editor of ITV News and presents the channel's flagship News at Ten programme and current affairs programme On Assignment. As a leading international news presenter, he has reported some of the highest profile global events for over 15 years. Rageh was a Senior BBC Foreign Correspondent, coming to global prominence as the face of the BBC Television News during the invasion of Iraq and the fall of Baghdad in 2003.


He has won numerous international awards including a Peabody Award for his reports for the BBC from Darfur and a BAFTA for the BBC’s coverage of the invasion of
Afghanistan in which he was the only western TV journalist to report from inside Taliban- held Kabul.


Rageh has travelled across and reported from regions all over the world, from the
Balkans to South Asia, but in particular, he has extensive knowledge and experience of the Middle East and Africa where he has lived and worked.


He has also made numerous documentaries including the landmark series, The Life of Muhammad, The Purpose of Islam, The Ottomans, Child Slavery, Inside Iran, The Dead Sea Scrolls, The Miracles of Jesus, Race and Intelligence: Science’s Last Taboo, The Vicar of Baghdad and An Islamic History of Europe.


Rageh has written often and widely for the main UK newspapers including The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times, The Guardian and The Daily Mail. He is also an author, having written two books published by Penguin; Revolution Day: The Human Stories Behind the Iraq War, and Only Half of Me: Being a Muslim in Britain.


Rageh was educated at the Dragon School, Oxford, Cheltenham Boy’s College and
Oxford University and lives in London.
